In Hashi, there is a noodle restaurant called "Gion", and when you go up the rusty spiralstaircase from the first floor parking lot, you can obviously see the state of the surfing point across the national road. In holidays, the telephone always rings. The old man takes the phone -----oh north----from hip to breast----- well about 10 people" Crush his noodle restaurant, that has kindly accepted to the access from surfers which was much more than ordering delivery , has been pulled down and there are only the mark of the ground left/ "If was about ten years ago, a person called Kiyoma-san has first played surfing around here---", the old woman in " gion" said so around 1980. Around this time, there was a surfing shop called "PowerRode" in Hamada City, and Surfing team has already been surfing actively. Those days, surfing was in quite a boom, and thesurfing team of Hamada has gave a preview of movie or something, and everybody was shouting with joy to the wave which was coming up all over the screen, so the history of surfing around here has been exited from long time ago, acted in concert with the surfing boom around "Shounan"
Time of PowerRide
Kiya-san and Sanbyaky-san, I don't know what they are doing now, but they are the owner of the surfing shop "PowerRide", which was opened in Hamada City around the 1970 to 1980, which the young fellow of the Japanese National Railways in the old days or high school students , has been surfing by getting sunburnt . of course from Hiroshima, surfer who likes surfing very much has been coming often. They were spending their surfing life cheerfully, in spite of frowned resident around Hashi or around Senjo. Reserved party in Sea Bathing resting place at the seaside of Hashi. Party by making a racket in Senjyouen which is a national lodgings. There were a joyful surfing team who don't think so much about tomorrow. I remember that surfers didn't treat windsurfers as heresy. When the board has got near the surfing bard and begins to jumped or ride on a wave, Kiya-san even said, "Why shouldn't I try this" The powerRide soon moved the shop to "Hashi", and the small shop, there were of course of land of Bari stuff "or whole bunch of local stuffs, which were making a row, and in the dakness of the interior part of the shop, sanbyku-san used to sit by glaps.
At the time of "Hamada
Board Sailing Club"
As is usual have made a "Board Sailing Club" in Hashi, and I think it was around 1982, when we began to gather in a shop called "Circus" in Hamada City. There were around 20 people in the club. I wonder what they are doing by now. It was in 1983, when we began board sailing school, or "The first Hashi Fan Board Contest", sponsored by the club. >From here, is the report manuscript of the contest which we have sent to a magazine company. It is the original report which have been published around the end of the magazine "Wind". It has not been charged now, but I feel careful that I have been vied with one another in spite of poor sentence.
In October 9th, there was "The First Hashi Fan Board Contest" in Hashi , Goutu City, Shimane prefecture. This tournament was first planned as a small, local fan board contest by the purpose of communication between "Sanin" people and "Sanyo" people, but when we sent the invitation, many people positively sent an entry from all over the place at the same time. And after all, there were 4people from Okayama prefecture, 1people from Hiroshima prefecture, 3 persons from Tottori prefecture, 8 persons from Shimane prefecture, 9 persons from Yamaguchi prefecture, 7 persons from Northern Kyusyu, 1 person from Tsushima in prefecture, and also Mr.Syouei Ogino from Osaka, and it has finally become a "West Japan fan board cup". The present situation seems to that the fan boarders who don't care about are increasing at every places , and they are purely trying to find places to compete with another. I had a strong presentiment that from now, fan board contest will be more popular than the race, to be the local tournament. At the day of the tournament, the wind was from 7 to 9 meter per second, and it didn't get stronger but only the wave was big, and it was a disadvantage condition for the players who rides short boards in a rough condition which the wave breaks from far offshore. The struggle had been the one that the person who finish trough even if they were pushed back over and over by violent shore break. In such a condition, Shinobu Yamanaka or Makoto Shinohara from "Northern Kyuushyu , had shown a sailing technique just like they were running on a flat eater of which they can afford to do. They had shown a continuity jump in the out position, speedy wave making in the position, duck-jive and other things, and it was a high level riding. To the Akira Narukiyo from Tsushima in Nagasaki prefecture, or in Tottori prefecture, professional player ogino had praised " they will get better and better from now". The result was that Shinobu Yamanaka from "Nothern Kyusyu F", who had shown a great sailing technique in a rough condition was the first, Michio Matsumoto from the same "Northern Kyusu F" was the second, third was Horo Ohta who is a Scholar ship BSC,and Makoto Shinohara from "Nothern Kyusyu F". After the tournament, an exchange of greetings party was held in a tourist home near the tournament place, and almost all the players had participated, and many kinds of event was held, such as arm wrestling tournament judged by professional Ogino, and every player's face was fresh, and enjoyable. As a tournament, the condition was not so good, and there must be players who had a regrettable feeling by not showing their real power, but it must had been a significant enough tournament to enlighten with each other. I want to continue this tournament more meaningful one, from now on. |
And after another few years, like others, "Hamada boardsailing club" had been broken up by the menders being transferred or other cause. ( To be continue)
In those days of North
Wave
Around 1984, Mr.Tanaka came from Kyusyu, Borrowing a filling up storehouse of propane gas, and painted an almost breaking wave all over the block wall, the prefab surf-shop had opened in Uyagawa near Hashi. Of course the main goods was surf board, but they have shaped the board for wind surfing.
It was in the latter half of 1980's when always someone gathered and kept talking about wave or something silly, at the shop where taciturn Makonisan who likes Beethoven had always slept over in the interior with anowl. |

In those days of Gusty
Kids
When the silly local windsurfers who were talking about silly things, had increased again to a certain amount, I think it was around 1985, when a random windsurfing team had made. Its name was Gustykids. Everybody was random who liked ocean and alcoholic drink and women--- but their random part was very good. (To be continued)
Persons who were long yearned for this , or
persons who has the pictures in those days, please give me a mail.
Until I bought a digital camera, pictures was troublesome for me, so I
don't have so much reflections in old times. But three was a video tape
at the interior of a cabinet of which I had been kept taking from around
by printing these on the paper I want to make. "The history of Hashi's
Windsurfing".
Until now, many people came from many places to Hashi, and enjoyed the most happy time together a lot, and everybody had gone somewhere. I sometime thins where everybody are, and what they are doing by now. If possible, it will be nice to have an old boy's meeting of Hashi.@
